Why Using Willpower to Stop Binge Eating Doesn’t Work

Do you think you don’t have enough willpower to stop binge eating?

You’re probably right.

Willpower is a limited resource and if you want to make long-term, lasting change, you cannot rely on it.

For some of us, it runs out by the end of the day, or maybe you’re able to make it last until the weekend or for a whole month, and then you completely unravel and binge your brains out.

When you’re using willpower, there is this constant struggle between what you want to be doing and what you’re programmed to do.

Your programming is in your thinking and if you don’t change your thinking, you won’t be able to change your actions for very long.

It looks like this:

Your thoughts create your feelings and your feelings drive your actions.

When we use willpower, the feelings caused by our current thinking that are driving us to binge are still there, yet we push against them in order to not binge eat. It’s exhausting! And it’s why we can only do it for so long.

If you only focus on changing the action, you’ll be consistently wearing yourself out all the time.

The change needs to start in your thinking, then the action will simply fall into place.

Changing your thinking is a process and it’s one that I want to help you with.
